Fatty15: Elevating Your Cognitive Health
Published by Dr. Venn-Watson

Dr. Eric Venn-Watson’s Highlights
Since the initial discovery of C15:0 as a healthy aging nutrient in older dolphins, over 100 peer-reviewed papers have been published on how C15:0 supports long-term health and wellness in humans. This includes how C15:0 supports metabolic and red blood cell health, while also improving cellular signaling related to liver health, healthy immune responses, and healthy glucose responses.
Wonderfully, a new peer-reviewed study found that pure C15:0 (aka fatty15) also has activities relevant to protecting cognitive health. So, let’s dive into these new findings about pure C15:0 and how fatty15 can help not only our whole body health, but our cognitive health, too.
Sounds exciting! But what are C15:0 and fatty15?
C15:0 (pronounced see-fifteen) the first fatty acid to show the promise of meeting the criteria of an essential fatty acid in over 90 years. Essential fatty acids are nutrients that our bodies must have to maintain our baseline health. Since our bodies don’t make enough C15:0 on their own, however, studies support that we need to get certain amounts of C15:0 routinely in our diet or supplements to maintain healthy C15:0 levels. Multiple independent studies from the U.S., France, China, and Canada have shown how C15:0 meets the criteria of an essential fatty acid.
Fatty15 is a pure, bioavailable, science-backed, vegan-friendly and award-winning C15:0 supplement that actively repairs, restores and revitalizes our long-term health at the cellular level. All in, fatty15 provides 36+ cellular activities to support our long-term health (which is 3x more than omega-3, based on robust human cell system studies).
Got it. What did the latest study find about fatty15 & cognitive health?
This latest Office of Naval Research-funded study explored fatty15’s potential to directly benefit brain health using an independently run, third-party panel that screened for neuroprotective molecules. As shared in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, C15:0 had the following two dose-dependent activities that support cognitive health:
-
Fattty15 inhibits fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). Endocannabinoids are “happy” molecules made by our bodies that naturally balance healthy immune responses in our brain and support our cognitive health. Unfortunately, our endocannabinoid system tends to peter out as we get older, resulting in age-related declines in cognitive function. Because FAAH is an enzyme that rapidly breaks down endocannabinoids, there is a lot of excitement in the science world around molecules that inhibit FAAH and help to extend the efficacy of our oh-so-wonderful happy molecules - not just to protect our brain health, but also to support healthy sleep, better joint comfort, and calmer moods. Especially as we age.
-
Fattty15 inhibits monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). Dopamine is a key messenger in our brain that supports a healthy memory and mood. MAO-B (which increases as we get older) lowers dopamine levels in our brain, resulting in declining cognitive function. Here’s the good news: MAO-B inhibitors help to maintain healthy dopamine levels in the brain, which in addition to protecting brain health, have also been shown to support calm moods and better sleep. In fact, MAO-B inhibitors have also been shown to extend the lifespan of both rats and dogs. Due to the many anti-aging benefits of MAO-B inhibitors, these molecules have been proposed as a means to slow biological aging and protect against age-related cognitive decline. Well, that’s pretty exciting.
These newly discovered activities of fatty15 are consistent with prior human studies showing that people with higher C15:0 levels have better overall cognitive performance scores, including better memory and better mood. Yes, please.
Elevate your cells. Elevate your self.
One aging body, many connected functional declines.
We are increasingly understanding that how poorly or well we age is linked not just to our brain health, but to our whole body and mind health. For example:
-
People who have suboptimal metabolic health also have suboptimal liver function.
-
People who have suboptimal liver function have suboptimal heart health.
-
People who have imbalanced immune responses have suboptimal metabolic, liver, and heart health.
-
People who have any or all of the above have suboptimal cognitive health.
Well, you get it - everything is connected. That's why the ultimate goal is to find those needle-in-a-haystack geroprotectors that slow and reverse cellular aging at the earliest & broadest levels to help truly protect our long-term health and wellness. That’s where fatty15 comes in.
How fatty15 slows and reverses aging at the cellular level.
Fatty15 provides a patented, award-winning pure C15:0, and intake of this fatty acid has been associated with health and longevity. Beyond just association, fatty15 has been shown to directly slow and reverses aging at the cellular level by:
-
Strengthening cell membranes by protecting against lipid peroxidation.
-
Improving mitochondrial function, as demonstrated in cellular studies.
-
Supporting healthy inflammatory responses, as shown in preclinical and cellular studies.
We're talking whole body health…and brain health, too.
There are now 100+ peer-reviewed studies demonstrating C15:0’s health benefits. These benefits translate into how fatty15 helps to raise C15:0 to healthy levels that support overall:
-
Metabolic health & healthy metabolism
-
Red blood cell health
Fatty15 has also been shown to improve cellular signaling related to:
-
Liver health
-
Healthy immune response
-
Healthy glucose response
-
Cognitive health
With 36+ cellular activities and demonstrated to have more beneficial activities than omega-3 in human cell models, these many broad cellular benefits explain how fatty15 supports our whole body and brain health.
A healthy aging discovery & science story worth sharing.
